Microsoft Has Announced Surface Pro X, A New Surface Laptop Based on ARM

Sharing is caring!

Surface Pro X is Microsoft’s first ARM-based Surface since the launch of Surface 2 in 2013. However, it is a very different type of device, as the brand indicates. Microsoft sees this as a complete professional-class Surface machine, and not as a cheaper basic model such as original Surface Surface and Surface 2.

Like other new Microsoft Surface devices, the ARM-based 13-inch Pro X will offer USB-C ports and LTE connectivity. The screen has a contrast ratio of 1400: 1 and a resolution of 2880 × 1920 and can be extended to a 4K screen. At its thinnest point, the Pro X is 5.3 mm thick and weighs 1.68 pounds. There is also a removable hard drive, the first for the Surface line. With Qualcomm, Microsoft has designed its own custom processor for this purpose (the SQ1). Microsoft also highlighted the work done by the team to create an artificial intelligence engine in the chipset.

“What does it mean? Better battery, faster, thinner, lighter, with unprecedented performance, while harnessing the full power of Windows, Office, Edge and Chrome,” said Panos Panay, product manager at Microsoft.

The new tablet also has the 4G always connected, similar to a smartphone, and promises a much longer battery life than traditional Intel computers. Surface Pro X will start at £ 999 in the United Kingdom and $ 999 in the United States, where it will ship in early November. Microsoft also launched a new thinner Surface Pen for the Pro X, which will include its own storage space in the new Type Cover for the device.

It is no secret that ARM spared no effort to have the chip design applied to laptops, desktops and servers. With each new generation of its design, the company explains that it wants to integrate more chips into these machines, especially now that its performance is often largely sufficient for many use cases. With this partnership with Microsoft, it is a bit closer to us.

From the outside, the Surface Pro X looks a lot like a classic Surface Pro, with a similar form factor and chassis, although Microsoft has added new rounded edges to the corners, rather than the more angular Surface design. Microsoft has also added a new base for a new Surface Slim stylus in Surface Pro X, which places it directly above the keyboard in a “pencil case” that can be hidden behind the character cache with smart magnets.

Surface Pro X is the next generation of hybrid tablets/laptops from Microsoft. It fits a larger 13-inch high-resolution screen within the 12-inch frame of the existing Surface Pro, measures only 5.3 mm thick at its thinnest point and weighs 762 g. It retains the removable Type Cover keyboard from the existing Microsoft line but features a new Surface Slim Pen that adapts to the keyboard and tablet for charging and storage.

Microsoft has also announced a new set of true wireless headphones, called Surface Earbuds, which are direct competitors of Apple’s AirPods and Samsung’s Galaxy Buds and join their existing Surface headphones.

Bluetooth headphones offer support for a single clip and compatibility with multiple devices, which means they can be used with computers, phones and tablets of all brands. Its battery life is 24 hours with a charging case. A network of two microphones in each ear is designed to capture the user’s voice and cancel background noise, which has been demonstrated by voice dictation in Office for legends and real-time translation.

They also have a direct integration of Spotify to start playback without having to search for the Android phone, as well as gesture controls for playback and volume, something that is missing in many wireless headphones. The surface headphones will cost $ 249 later this year in the United States.
